Jaden Smith, whose last feature film was “After Earth” where he starred alongside his father Will Smith, will soon be joining the cast of Netflix’s upcoming news TV series titled “The Get Down.” The TV series is Netflix’s musical TV drama series and it is set to make its premier on Netflix in 2016.

The 16-year old actor and son to popular Hollywood actor Will Smith, will be taking up the role in Netfliz’s new drama series that is under the watchful eye of Baz Luhrmann. The news was announced on Tuesday 9th June by Netflix.

“The Get Down” will take place in New York City during the 1970’s when hiphop was emerging as a big force in the city. That said the show will feature Jaden Smith in a very exciting role and Jaden Smith is also all in for the TV series. According to various sources including the series’s executive producers Baz, who also is the series’s creator, Jaden, who gain global popularity after starring in “The Karate Kid” is super happy about the new role and has been taking up various lessons so as to ensure that he is ready for the part.   

“He has begun developing his The Get Down skill set, even taking lessons from the legendary graffiti artist Lady Pink of ‘Wild Style’ fame, as well as steeping himself in the history and culture
of the Bronx,” he said.  

Baz has been part of a number of big projects in Hollywood including “The Great Gatsby” and according to him the role is perfect for Jaden Smith whom they have been following.
